Mission Trip

It feels weird writing my first blog post since February. But, I thought I'd post about the mission trip I just went on anyway. So we left Friday, July 8th and we really weren't prepared like we should have been. Mostly because my youth leaders' daughter just got married the month before we went so they were busy with that & we were busy with other things. Even still, we should've been prepared. We had a day camp from Monday-Friday. Monday, 32 kids showed up. Good number, in our mind. We were expecting less. Tuesday, somewhere between 60-67 kids! They doubled. We were so excited. We had at least 8 salvations throughout the week. It was awesome! Quite a few parents showed up for family night too! That was surprising knowing a little about these kids home lives, and being called mommy by some of them. But the main thing we learned is how blessed/spoiled we really are. We were in a building with no air conditioning for 4 hours a day for 5 days and complaining about it when some people live like that all the time. We went in between breakfast & lunch for 5 1/2-6 hours and thought we were starving, when some people get 1 tiny meal a day if even that. We really are blessed to have a home with AC/heating, beds to sleep in, food to eat, etc. Some people don't know when their next meal will be. Think about that. Don't take "little" things like that for granted. Are we truly thankful for what God has given us?

Seek the Lord

"The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing." -Psalm 34:10(NIV)

I read this verse in my quiet time the other day, and when I came to it I read it at least 3 times. I really like this verse, because sometimes we get so caught up in thinking "I need more money, I need that new gadget, I need this, I need that." But God tells us if we are seeking the Lord we will lack no good thing. If we're seeking the Lord, and more money was good, God would give it to us. If that new gadget was good, if this & that were good, we would have it, if we're seeking Him. We have to trust that God will provide for us, if we seek Him, with our needs. We don't always need more money, when we do, if we're seeking the Lord, He will provide it. Four words in that verse are keywords, and we have to pay attention to them. The first three are, "seek the LORD." The last is, "good."
Seek the Lord and you will lack no good thing.
That's a promise from God.

It is Well With My Soul

This morning, for the first time in a couple weeks due to the snow, we had church, and we sang "It is well with my soul." I didn't know the story of the man who wrote it before, but our song leader told it this morning. That man's only son had died, and many things he had invested money in were burnt by the great Chicago fire. So he decided to take a vacation, and when his daughters & wife were on their way, the ship sank & only his wife survived. On the way to meet his wife, he wrote It Is Well With My Soul. If we lost almost everything like he did, is Jesus enough? Could we say it is well with my soul? Hopefully if we're saved, we could. Jesus should be enough for us, number one in our lives.
Think about it,

Snow(:

I have one question, seeing this, the perfect beauty of the snow, how could anyone not believe there is a God?
Just a thought,

I Am His

At my church we always have a New Years Eve talent show/game night. For the talent show this year, I sang a song called I Am Yours by Bethany Dillon. As I was singing it my body was shaking, like I was so nervous, and I wondered why, because I was singing to the Lord, I didn't feel nervous, yet my body did. I think about how our emotions play tricks on us, when we're supposed to listen to God. We think we know what's best, but in reality only God does, and we need to look to Him in times of trouble. We are His, we are His children, we are not our own. One of my favorite parts of that song goes,
"You have called me out of shadows, out of darkness, into Light, hemmed in by the Hands of Mercy I'm completely satisfied to be Yours."
We should be satisfied to be His! He is all we will ever need.
Have a great day, (:

Christmas, etc.

Wooooow I haven't posted in forever!
Anyway, I deleted almost all of my posts that were just about random junk, so now this is just gonna be to glorify my Savior. No more random crap(:
Anyway, to get back to the point, how do you celebrate Christmas? I'm not talking about presents and bows and Christmas trees, that's all great, but how do you really celebrate Christmas? In my family we always read the Christmas story & pray before we open our presents. Some families just "observe another holiday," as my pastor/father says often. (; If you haven't truly been saved by the Lord Jesus Christ, you are observing a holiday. Don't get frustrated or stressed because of the "craziness of the holiday season," but remember Jesus and enjoy the Christmas season. Celebrate it. Be happy, not upset. Smile at a few extra people in Wal Mart(;
CHRISTmas is about, if you can't take a hint, Christ. The birth of our Savior. God's one and only Son, Jesus Christ coming to earth to be born of a virgin. Presents and bows and Christmas trees are nice, but we can't forget the real reason for this marvelous season. Remember Jesus, and His birth, and celebrate Christmas. I hope you never observe another holiday, but always truly celebrate Christmas.
Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year(:
Love in Christ,
-
